Hi! Please note the change in our A River Runs Through It discussion time. Because I will be gone on Friday, I have decided to change ourdiscussion day to Thursday. We will discuss the first 13 or so pages in the second hour of class on Thursday. Please come prepared to discuss the book with me and your classmates. Also, there might be a short (5 minute) quiz on the first 13 pages of the book.
HW for Thursday:
1. Speed Reading Idioms (from readings 1 and 2) (Just study the definitions and examples given for each idiom)
2. Activity D and E (p. 13--Inside Reading 2) (collected) (see example below)
3. Check Self-Assessment (p. 1) (find out if you have truly "learned" each word from Unit 1)
4. Complete the Self-Assessment for Unit 2 (p. 15).
5. Read to p. 13 in A River Runs Through It. Be ready to discuss the setting, characters, the plot, etc.
Making Assumptions
We all make assumptions. Sometimes these assumptions are based on experience and previous knowledge of a person, place or thing. Often times our assumptions are "dead-on" correct (exactly right). However, it is often the case that our assumptions are wrong. Sometimes making the wrong assumption can cause problems or even be dangerous. Activities D and E ask you to think about common assumptions people might make about various situations (Activity D) and evaluate the potential danger of common assumptions people make on a daily basis. Good luck!
